In terms of colour, we opted to go with Forbo's Marmoleum Real #3238 Laguna, as it served up the best balance of contrast against red rubies, which are used extensively in watchmaking, the brass colour of many watch components, as well as the darker blue hue of blued steel. When the parts are small enough, the highly reflective surface of polished steel tends to camouflage into just about any colour and, across various lighting conditions, we were unable to find an appreciably more performant colour to handle these than the Laguna blue.
